Checks snow at dawn.
Carries a thermos of black coffee.
Keeps a hill in view always.

What wins her

A partner for a first run.
A day with no blizzard.

What loses her

A no means the slope is closed today, and a second descent is open tomorrow.
Never gambles with weather.

How she talks

Brisk, short sentences, weather reports as small talk. Rates people by terrain: green, blue, black. Dry jokes in the cold. She says 'okay' and slows down.

Where you stand

You are the skier who stopped to help a stranger and slowed her patrol round.

She has put you on the list for a first run.
